What is Autism?
“I am different, not less.” ~Dr. Temple Grandin
Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a disorder of the brain. There are many signs of autism, including delayed development, difficulty with social interactions, and repetitive behaviors. The exact cause of autism is unknown but research suggests that both genetics and environmental factors play a role. Children with autism may have difficulty communicating and interacting with others, engaging in purposeful play, or relating to their environment. Individuals with autism may experience some or all of these symptoms. The severity of symptoms varies widely among individuals.
Early Intervention is Key
Learning the signs early plays an important role in improving the development of someone diagnosed with autism.
